Mike Eddie "Musicianship Class"

Dir. J.B. Adkins
Musical note raining/confetti all around Mike. Narrative scenes we see magical music note rain
along with kids dancing.

Purpose- To highlight Mike Eddie's effervescent passion for music by incorporating a unique and outlined narrative with that of a magical visual initiative combined with the use of strong illustrations and practical effects.
Raining music. Similar concept.

The Look !
Bright, drab, phenomenally contrasty colors. The colors resemble those similar to the various tones found within the latest Alice in Wonderland family drama. Colors almost mock each other, similarly upholding one another’s’ individual unique hue. Lots of oversaturated and bright splashes strewn throughout some of the narrative sequences while incorporating the opposite of an infinite depth of field. Everything we experience within the narrative remains heavily focused in regards to the subject in which the scenes revolves around. All narrative shot in 60p slowed, conformed, and pulled down to 24fps. Bright , fun, exotic colors utilized for the most subtle objects. Reds, blues, and greens especially emphasized as well as heavily glossed. Most of the painting done in post. Performance piece features the opposite of everything explained throughout the narrative. Very high concept, high fashion, glossy, clean images similar to that of a VIBE Magazine photo shoot. Lighting on the subject requires brightness beyond what any normal household lighting would provide! Colored lights flashing in the background [stage] with several flashes reflecting off of Mike and the band from the crowd.[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4CuTuRjBLY&feature=related] [check out lens flare-replace Matt Damon with Mike syncing]Spotlight on various band members. Lots of out of focus creating the silhouette effect, especially with natural light.
The VIBE
Performance scene with Mike directly in front of instruments
in the band room. Accent lighting we can leave up to experimentation.
Serious overtone with subtle, yet comedic undertone. Keep costume(s). We feature harps, trumpets, along with an assortment of unique musical instruments with their masters around Mike throughout performance shots. Mike’s attitude is one of both drudgery and excitement until the big SHOW at which we feature him in his prime, blowing the entire talent competition out of the water! Mike possesses a certain air of confidence about him, yet at the same time remains uncertain about his new found love interest [initially]. As the story narrative builds, so does Mike’s confidence until the actual SHOW in which he sings to her and asks her to join him onstage for a clean, fun, DANCE [60p COV].The entire video features all of the action taking place in somewhat of a dreamy, fantasy world where it rains musical notes everywhere and doodles come to life
like it happens everyday RAINS MUSICAL NOTES IN THIS MUSIC FANTASY WORLD. Pacing begins very slow and subtle, but increases as the song’s sense of urgency becomes greater and greater.

The Video
We open with EddieBear   Mike slowly strolling down the hallway where he spots his love interest socializing with some girlfriends by her locker.  soon as
Overexposure as seen in narrative; Mike walking down hallway.

song commences, it begins raining musical notes everywhere and we cut to the band room where Mike is in class surrounded by outlandish instruments busily being played. We see clean flares in the lens with dolly in and out to Mike in the middle performing directly to the camera. Musical rain is only featured on the 60p narrative scenes. We will always incorporate a performance on the same slate as the narrative in order to effectively utilize as much coverage as possible throughout.
Love the overexposure. Gritty setting would be great for narrative scene(s). Location with windows would be amazing.
Classroom setups are extremely bright and cinematic, incorporating a slew of extras to portray high school students and teacher(s). Band room scene(s) include extras along with their instruments as well as a performance scene with Mike and the band in their silly suits practicing for the remainder of the band.
Love the choice of lighting/gels incorporated over the harp player.
We've room to experiment with some of this on our harp scenes.

cardboard sign reading Eddie Bear in a child like font. Mike’s love interest makes an appearance in the window of the band room and visits the quartet in their mystique arrangement. When the audience hears the O-o-o-o segment of the piece, we cut to Mike’s love interest smiling and dialoging with her eyes. Very narrative heavy video! The narrative centers around the story of young Mike and his infatuation with music. To young Mike, music is like his imaginary friend. He is able to talk to and communicate both with and through music and he utilizes this skill in order to garner the attention of his elementary love interest. Subtle elements are included throughout the flick especially when the music slows down or changes key. During these instances, we see various elements of the 8 year old's romance and how it develops by dollying out slowly

and fading away through shots as Mike's love lays her head on his shoulders etc.The climax of the medley showcases the 8 year olds dancing and basking in a magical array of overexposed musical rain pouring down in the band room where their romance first ensues.  Include coverage of Mike’s friends throwing paper and taunting him to come and skip class for rehearsal. Coverage of teacher snatching Mike’s doodles from him during class.  may incorporate various hints to sync with the beat such as a group of double-dutchers, street performers, breakdancers within the school courtyard for coverage as Mike walks by. Most climatic element of the video is when we feature Mike and the group without their suits performing the final piece. The quartet does so well that the crowd rushes and joins in on stage with the performers towards the end of the piece resulting in an all out musical throw-down on stage. This element is simply available in order to both play on as well as highlight the heavy emphasis on the love of structured music and sound. Mike and his love interest’s silhouette’s walk out into a heavily oversaturated, sun-soaked afternoon.

Classroom lighting/setting. This is the exposure/balance we need to
maintain throughout.
Adult Pooh Bear costume. Contemplating incorporating this.

Execution- the Canon 5d Mark II will be the primary camera of choice for the performance shots. The Canon 7d will be utilized for all narrative scenes [all shot slow] with mirror boards and Kino flos sufficing as primary lighting. [Couple PAR's strewn throughout bg for flare]. For the musical rain, several bags of silver, blue, and white musical note confetti will be dropped into the frame from a gaffer/grip standing on a ladder. Heavy, HEAVY anamorphic lens flare which, of course, requires the use of an anamorphic lens/star filter over the lens. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DhHC0xx35S4&feature=related We will achieve an effect similar to this which will create a nice, clean, sharp, and glossy image in conjuction with the 5d. Imagine Mike's face at a CU [tight] with the lens flares and colors in the BG throughout the performance scenes.
More exposure and anamorphic examples-pay attention to the feel of this short in regards to the exposure by the windows as well as the flaring. Our colorization will be much brighter as far as the mood. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcfMvinC8KU&feature=related
Type of overexposure such as when Mike is walking down the halls.
This is the lighting we require for all flashback narrative.
