Purpose- To highlight Mike Eddie's effervescent passion for music by incorporating a unique and outlined narrative with that of a magical visual initiative combined with the use of strong illustrations and practical effects.
The Look !
Bright, drab, phenomenally contrasty colors. The colors resemble those similar to the various tones found within the latest Alice in Wonderland family drama. Colors almost mock each other, similarly upholding one another’s’ individual unique hue. Lots of oversaturated and bright splashes strewn throughout some of the narrative sequences while incorporating the opposite of an infinite depth of field. Everything we experience within the narrative remains heavily focused in regards to the subject in which the scenes revolves around. All narrative shot in 60p slowed, conformed, and pulled down to 24fps. Bright , fun, exotic colors utilized for the most subtle objects. Reds, blues, and greens especially emphasized as well as heavily glossed. Most of the painting done in post. Performance piece features the opposite of everything explained throughout the narrative. Very high concept, high fashion, glossy, clean images similar to that of a VIBE Magazine photo shoot. Lighting on the subject requires brightness beyond what any normal household lighting would provide! Colored lights flashing in the background [stage] with several flashes reflecting off of Mike and the band from the crowd.[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4CuTuRjBLY&feature=related] [check out lens flare-replace Matt Damon with Mike syncing]Spotlight on various band members. Lots of out of focus creating the silhouette effect, especially with natural light. The VIBE

Performance scene with Mike directly in front of instruments in the band room. Accent lighting we can leave up to experimentation.
like it happens everyday RAINS MUSICAL NOTES IN THIS MUSIC FANTASY WORLD. Pacing begins very slow and subtle, but increases as the song’s sense of urgency becomes greater and greater.

Overexposure as seen in narrative; Mike walking down hallway. Brighter hallway for shoot.

Love the overexposure. Gritty setting would be great for narrative scene(s). Location with windows would be amazing.

Love the choice of lighting/gels incorporated over the harp player. We've room to experiment with some of this on our harp scenes.

Execution- the Canon 5d Mark II will be the primary camera of choice for the performance shots. The Canon 7d will be utilized for all narrative scenes [all shot slow] with mirror boards and Kino flos sufficing as primary lighting. [Couple PAR's strewn throughout bg for flare]. For the musical rain, several bags of silver, blue, and white musical note confetti will be dropped into the frame from a gaffer/grip standing on a ladder. Heavy, HEAVY anamorphic lens flare which, of course, requires the use of an anamorphic lens/star filter over the lens. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DhHC0xx35S4&feature=related We will achieve an effect similar to this which will create a nice, clean, sharp, and glossy image in conjuction with the 5d. Imagine Mike's face at a CU [tight] with the lens flares and colors in the BG throughout the performance scenes.
More exposure and anamorphic examples-pay attention to the feel of this short in regards to the exposure by the windows as well as the flaring. Our colorization will be much brighter as far as the mood. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcfMvinC8KU&feature=related

Type of overexposure such as when Mike is walking down the halls. This is the lighting we require for all flashback narrative.
